The liturgical calendar is seamlessly integrated into daily school life. A few events are particularly anticipated by the school community.

  • Rosary Procession: In October, as a school we gather in the evening for a candlelight ceremony in the church. The children lead us in the Rosary in English and Latin.

  • Gallery of Saints: Our 2nd graders bring the saints to life quite literally with a living museum. Parents and students of all grade levels visit the gallery and “press" play to learn about the life of each Saint represented.

  • Christmas Pageant: The annual Christmas Pageant is a traditional and beautiful celebration of the nativity involving students from 2nd to 8th grade.

  • Passion Play: The Passion Play is a profound combination of various spoken parts from the Passion of our Lord in Scripture, music, meditations, and art – all of which serve to deepen the students’ understanding of the mystery of our Lord’s Passion in preparation for Holy Week.

  • May Crowning: The May Crowning is a longstanding St. Gertrude School tradition honoring Mary the Mother of God. The night includes a procession, Eucharistic Adoration, and crowning of the Blessed Mother with a floral wreath by two 8th graders and two 2nd graders nominated by their class.

"I love that our 8th grade students make a consecration to Mary, and the children learn that Mary always guides us to Jesus. May Crowning at St. Gertrude is an event I never miss. Seeing our children dressed in their finest and hearing them sing and pray to Our Blessed Mother brings tears of joy to my eyes."

"Looking back on the 8 years my family has been at St. Gertrude School, it is the Christmas Pageant that puts us in the mood to start celebrating Christmas. While the Pageant is the same script and the same wonderful story of our redemption every year, it magically reminds my family why Jesus came to Earth and why we should be joyful!"
