Fr. Andre Joseph LaCasse, O.P.

Originally from Lewiston, Maine, Father André Joseph LaCasse, O.P. (Pastor) entered the Dominican Province of Saint Joseph in 1986 and was ordained May 20, 1992. Father holds a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Maine (1996), an M.Div/STB from the Dominican House of Studies (1992), and a Master’s Degree in Spirituality from the Pontifical College of St. Thomas, (Angelicum) in Rome, Italy (2000). He served Saint Dominic Church in Youngstown, Ohio for 7 years, Saint Patrick Church in Columbus, Ohio for 10 years, and began his ministry here at Saint Gertrude in 2010. This brings him full circle, because Father began religious life as a novice at Saint Gertrude. Brought up in a Dominican parish, taught by Dominican Sisters, and having studied in the field of education, Father feels right at home in the school, where his office is located. Saint Gertrude School is very grateful for his high involvement with our school community, including weekly school Masses, visits to classrooms, and hearing the students’ confessions.
Sr. Mary Aquinas, O.P.

Sister Mary Aquinas Halbmaier, O. P. (principal) was born in Minnesota and raised in Idaho. Before entering the convent in Nashville, Sister attended Thomas Aquinas College in California. After entering the convent, she completed a degree at Belmont University, majoring in English and minoring in Philosophy and has since acquired a Masters in Educational Leadership from Northwestern State, LA and a Masters in Theological Studies from Providence College, RI. Sister Mary Aquinas served her first term as principal at Saint Patrick School in McEwen, Tennessee. During her 6 years as principal of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Newport News, Virginia, Sister accomplished a restoration of the 8th grade to the school. She was asked to be the re-founding principal at Saint John Vianney School in Gallatin, Tennessee. She served as Prioress of Saint Cecilia Motherhouse from 2006-2011. In the spring of 2011, Sister was sent to complete the year as principal of Saint Louis Cathedral Academy in New Orleans. She arrived to begin serving Saint Gertrude School in August 2011.
Mrs. Elaine Nolte

Mrs. Elaine Nolte is the Assistant Principal. After working for nearly 20 years at Good Samaritan Hospital she decided to pursue a degree in elementary Education at the University of Cincinnati. She was a 5th and 6th grade teacher for 11 years at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School. While teaching, she received her Masters degree in Education/Administration from Xavier University and joined St. Gertrude in 2002. Though Mrs. Nolte enjoys the variety of responsibilities and duties associated with administration, there are times she misses the classroom, so she teaches several junior high electives.

Mrs. Judy Bayer has been an Administrative Assistant/Receptionist at St. Gertrude School since 1978. Mrs. Bayer has a Bachelor of Arts degree in French from Edgecliff College and taught high school and substituted as a teacher/secretary in the public schools before joining our faculty. Since she knows parents and even grandparents of our students, Mrs. Bayer is like a part of everyone’s family!

Mrs. Sarah Trautmann has been a proud faculty member of St. Gertrude since 2006. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from St. Louis University with a B.A. in Elementary Education. She worked as a third grade teacher at St. Gertrude for seven years before transitioning to a part-time administrative assistant in order to stay home more often with her son.  She's very glad to still be a part of the St. Gertrude community.
Mrs. Margaret Stevenson

Mrs. Margaret Stevenson began working at St. Gertrude School in 2006. She originally worked as an aide in the Science Lab, and then transitioned to the office as an Administrative Assistant. Mrs. Stevenson is responsible for the Bulldog Bulletin, teaches electives, and assists with various other administrative duties. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Dayton, with a double major in Psychology and Social Work, and a Master's degree in Business/Labor and Human Resources Management from The Ohio State University. She worked as the Communications/Recruitment Manager for Thriftway Food and Drug for seven years after college. After staying home full time for 12 years to raise her three children, she feels blessed to have the opportunity to work part-time with the awesome faculty and staff at St. Gertrude School, using her education, but also having the flexibility of being available to her family.
Mrs. Patricia Baute

Mrs. Pat Baute, cafeteria manager, started at St. Gertrude School in 1955. (That was the year she entered first grade.) In the early 70s she returned to teach second grade for a few years. In 1987 when her children began attending St. Gertrude she returned again to the school to work part-time in the cafeteria. Since 1992, as manager, she has enjoyed caring for the nutritional lunch needs of the students. Her most important challenge is using the USDA commodities and incorporating fresh foods in the most nourishing manner and still make it appealing to the students. Mrs. Baute thoroughly enjoys seeing the students every day and especially delights in feeding the children of St. Gertrude alums who still remember her school pizza.

Mr. Jim Andrus helps to keep our school polished, heated, cooled, and in good repair. Prior to coming to St. Gertrude School, he was employed by Kenwood Terrace Nursing Home. Mr. Andrus has been a part of the St. Gertrude School family since 1994. One of the things he likes best about St. Gertrude is the people he gets to know and help each day. A favorite activity is attending his children’s sporting events.

Mrs. Terry Elam helps to keep our school clean and always ready for company. She takes pride in what she does and is very helpful to the teachers and administration. Before coming to St. Gertrude in 2004, Mrs. Elam worked at Holy Trinity School in Norwood. Her favorite activity is spending time at her family camp with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jeff Plate is the Director of Stewardship and Development for St Gertrude Parish and School.  Jeff joined the parish and school staff in 2011.  In this capacity, Jeff assists the school administration with marketing, communications, and development projects.  Jeff holds a BA in Communications from Norwich University (VT) and a Masters in Public Administration from Golden Gate University (CA).  Jeff retired from the Air Force in 2008 after 22 years of service, serving in a variety of personnel, communications, information, education, public relations and strategic planning positions.  With nearly 20 years combined experience in the non-profit sector as a development professional and school volunteer in private education, Jeff has led fundraising efforts and served and led boards, and coached a variety of youth sports. Jeff brings enthusiasm and passion for Catholic education to this important position.

Mrs. Susan Normand has taught at St. Gertrude School over 20 years. She is a graduate from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education K-8 grades and holds an Advanced Catechetical Certificate. Teaching Full Day Kindergarten, Sue incorporates all subjects when teaching letters and sounds with a hands-on approach. She enriches her classroom with projects designed for student's interests and abilities, such as taking virtual trips to outer space. Using differentiated instruction, every child is successful in Mrs. Normand’s classroom.
Mrs. Donna Johnston

Mrs. Donna Johnston has taught Kindergarten at St. Gertrude School since 2005. She provides developmentally appropriate instruction through a multi-sensory approach. With a B.A. in education from Doane College in Nebraska, as well as Kindermusik and Orton Gillingham training, she teaches an integrated curriculum by incorporating a wide variety of methods, including music and movement, high quality visuals and tactile methods. Mrs. Johnston recognizes the importance of a nurturing child/parent connection and balances it with a transitional school year. Students from the Flex-day program are ready to meet the challenges of 1st grade.

Mrs. Erica Monahan graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education. She joined the St. Gertrude faculty as a long-term substitute teacher in 2009 and began teaching full-time in 2012. Mrs. Monahan loves teaching first graders because they are so eager to learn and experience new things. Students in Mrs. Monahan’s classroom are successful, confident, and independent learners.
Mrs. Karyn Dickman

Mrs. Karyn Dickman began her career at Saint Gertrude School in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Xavier University. She has since been trained in the Orton Gillingham method of teaching reading. In the fall of 2009, Mrs. Dickman implemented the Daily 5 program into her teaching with spectacular results, and it has helped her students to blossom into independent and motivated learners. Mrs. Dickman enjoys teaching all subjects to her first graders, but she especially loves Language Arts and strives to instill a love for reading in all of her students. She believes that her classroom should be a busy place where every student is reached and every student is successful.

Sister Mary Seton Cebrowski, O.P. is teaching 2nd grade at Saint Gertrude School, after most recently having taught 5th grade and 2nd grade at St. Thomas Aquinas Regional School in Woodbridge, Virginia. Before entering the convent, Sister graduated from the College of William and Mary and, since then, has received a Masters in Educational Leadership from Northwestern State University and a Masters in Catholic Studies from the University of St. Thomas. Her previous teaching experience includes kindergarten through sixth grade at seven schools in Tennessee, Illinois, Minnesota, Alabama, and Virginia. In addition, Sister served as principal of Saint Rose Academy in Birmingham, Alabama from 2008-2012.

Ms. Molly Hoctor is the 2nd grade teacher for SGS. Ms. Hoctor holds a degree in early childhood education from the University of Cincinnati. Even though it is Ms. Hoctor's first year teaching, it is not her first year being a Bulldog. Ms. Hoctor attended St. Gertrude School from 1995-2004. Most recently, Ms. Hoctor worked as a nanny taking care of 3 children.

Mrs. Kristi DeCaprio comes to SGS with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Bowling Green State University/College of Education. She holds a dual Ohio Teaching Certificate in Early Childhood - 3rd Grade and K-12 Physical Education. She taught at St. Mark Catholic School in Plano, Texas prior to moving to Ohio.  In 2010, she began substitute teaching at SGS for grades K-8th. She has been trained in the Orton-Gillingham method of teaching reading and is also earned an Early Childhood and Basic Catechist Certification. Mrs. DeCaprio is very excited to be teaching at St. Gertrudes and enjoys teaching 3rd grade.

Mrs. Annie Ethier has been teaching since 2005, when she graduated with a Bachelors degree from Ohio University in Early Childhood Education. She has since earned a Masters degree in Reading Education from Xavier University. Mrs. Ethier was herself a student at Saint Gertrude School, and joined our faculty in 2006 when she started as a long-term substitute for another teacher. She loves teaching math because there are just so many ways to achieve an answer! She also enjoys reading and has loved starting Book Club in the third grade. Her favorite project is the Planet Project: the students research a planet, create a PowerPoint, and present to the class. It is truly amazing to see their work! One of the reason Annie became a teacher is because everyday is a new adventure.
Mr. Jeff Hileman

Mr. Jeff Hileman graduated from Xavier University with a Bachelors Degree in Middle Childhood Education.  He worked in Cincinnati Public Schools from 2009-2011 and then spent a year at St. Joseph Catholic School before coming to St. Gertrude in 2012.  Mr. Hileman teaches math and science to the 4th grade and science to the 5th grade.  Jeff loves many things about St. Gertrude, but some of his favorites would include the students amazing passion for learning, the strong community in the school, and the fantastic staff he with whom he works.

Sister Immaculata Marie, O.P. is the 4th and 5th grade English and Religion teacher. Originally from Eastern PA, she entered the Dominican Sisters in 2009. Sister holds a bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a K-6th teaching licensure from Aquinas College in Nashville, TN. Most recently, Sister Immaculata Marie worked at a Catholic school in Atlanta teaching 5th grade math, science, writing and grammar.

Mr. Stahlberger holds a BS in Aviation Business Administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a Master of Education from Ashland University. He has 8 years of experience in the education. Mr. Stahlberger taught 6th grade at St. Michael School in Worthington, OH. for 5 years and most recently taught 6th and 8th grade religion at St. Ignatius School on the west side of Cincinnati.

Mr. Travis Johnson is the 5th and 6th grade Language Arts and 6th grade Religion Teacher. Mr. Johnson holds a BA in English and Philosophy from the University of Mississippi and a MA in Education from Appalachian State University.  Mr. Johnson also holds a M.Div. from Southern Evangelical Seminary where he studied himself and his wife into the Catholic Church.  He has been involved in private secondary and higher education for the past five years.  Most recently, Mr. Johnson worked for a seminary in Charlotte, NC doing full-time administration work and part-time teaching.

Mr. Michael Mason (7th Grade Religion & 8th Grade Language Arts) comes to SGS with a BS in Middle Childhood Education from Ohio University and MA in Philosophy from Southern Evangelical Seminary. After graduating from Ohio University, Mr. Mason taught 8th Grade Language Arts at Mooresville Middle School in Mooresville, NC for two years and 8th Grade Language Arts and Religion in grades 8-12 at Central Academy at Lake Park in Indian Trail, NC for six years. Mr. Mason has a passion for introducing students to the fundamental questions of human existence -origin, meaning, morality, and destiny - as they are presented in literature and in the life and thought of the Church. In his free time, Mr. Mason enjoys reading, hiking, watching college football, and spending time with his family. Mr. Mason’s wife, Jenni, is a kindergarten teacher at St. Michael School in Sharonville and they have two young sons.

Mrs. Jeanne Cregan (Mathematics, Grades 6-8) comes to SGS with a BA in Education from the University of Dayton and a Masters in Educational Leadership from Wright State University. After starting her teaching career in the Archdiocese of New York, Mrs. Cregan has taught in numerous schools in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, including IHM, Holy Trinity, St. Vincent Ferrer and All Saints. She is proud to say that teaching only math is her “dream job” and strives to teach her children to “think” math. Mrs. Cregan thrives on sudoko puzzles. She has been a member of St. Gertrude Faculty since 2007.

Sister Veronica Marie, O.P., a member of the Congregation of Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia, teaches Religion and Language Arts in St. Gertrude’s Junior High. A graduate of Benedictine College, Sister holds a B.A. in Secondary Education and English. Having taught in Nashville, Tennessee, and Denver, Colorado, she brings a variety of experience to St. Gertrude. In teaching Religion, Sister is aware the importance of students continuing to encounter Christ, deepening their personal relationship with Him. She strives to facilitate these encounters through solid doctrinal studies, opportunities for personal prayer and adoration, reception of the Sacraments, spiritual reading, and retreat events. She works closely with the youth minister to prepare the 8th grade students to lead the school’s households, and collaborates with the music instructor to direct them in the grand tradition of the Nativity Pageant. In Language Arts, Sister brings her love of writing, grammar, diagramming, and literature to her work. Students participate in book clubs, dramas, and theatrical readings. Classic Children’s Literature is a particular area of focus. When teaching writing, research papers, persuasive essays, and literary analysis form the basis of her assignments, all the while giving the students practical tools to improve their writing. Bringing her consecration and her professional experience to the classroom, Sister Veronica Marie strives to create an environment where each student feels challenged, guided, and loved.

Mrs. Katie Smedley is home grown, as it were, having graduated from Ursuline Academy. She then attended Xavier University, where she majored in History and minored in Classical Humanities, and since then has earned a Master of Education. Prior to jining SGS in 2013, her three years of teaching experience had been in high schools in Loveland and Milford, and an additional year teaching 9th grade in Amman, Jordan.

Mrs. Kristin Andrews is the Jr. High Science teacher at SGS. Mrs. Andrews holds a BS in Environmental Science and Education from Kent State and Ashland University. She has 8 years of experience in the education and environmental science industry. Most recently, Mrs. Andrews worked at St. Francis DeSales School in Lebanon teaching middle school science.
Mr. Michael McNay

Mr. Michael McNay has been teaching Latin for approximately 20 years, as well as history, English, music and physical science. He has been a vice principal, too. He holds a Bachelor of Science and Humanities from the University of Cincinnati. He has studied German, Spanish & French and plays the organ. All of this combined has served him well with grade levels 5-12. He has taught at Saint Pius X Academy, Our Lady of the Assumption Academy, and Immaculate Conception Academy. He is Virtus trained in both the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and the Diocese of Covington. He lives in Newport, KY, with his wife. He has three grown children and 5 grandchildren ranging from newborn to seven.

Mr. Jim Gillum is a graduate of Cincinnati Bible College (1993), holding a B. A. in education and Biblical Studies. Prior to becoming a music teacher, Mr. Gillum performed throughout the United States as a full time musician, singer/songwriter, and recording artist. Early in his career he recorded and played with Dove award winner Rich Mullins, and recorded with Grammy award winning artists Steve Wariner and Glen Duncan. In 2004 he earned third place in the Gospel Music Association’s national songwriter contest. Currently, he is finishing his Master Songwriter Certificate through Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he received the Phil Ramone Scholarship.  In the summer of 2012, he attended Miami University where he earned a level I Orff Certification.
Mrs. Nancy Flammer

Mrs. Nancy Flammer has a Bachlor of Arts degree in Fine Arts with a minor in Art Education from Edgecliff College with certification to teach K-12. Her concentration is painting, pottery and printmaking. Her passion is developing her students to use creative thinking skills, appreciation of all things art and gaining a sense of self through many art processes. After 20 years in the business world Mrs. Flammer began her true calling of teaching art. She has taught previously at Holy Trinity and All Saints and came to us at St. Gertrude in 1996.
Mrs. Pat Lacker

Mrs. Pat Lacker received her Bachlor of Science degree in Education from the Ohio State University and her Masters in Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh. She enjoys teaching with manipulatives, building structures, rubber-band cars, robots, and puppets. Previously, Mrs. Lacker was a high school library media specialist at Westerville South High School in Columbus, taught English as a Second Language in Los Angeles, taught 8th grade English at Indian Hill Middle School, and taught Hands-on Science at E.H. Greene School. Mrs. Lacker has been a part of the SGS faculty since 1999
Mr. Joe Donnellon

Mr. Joseph Donnellon attended Moeller High School and is a graduate of Northern Kentucky University where he majored in Physical Education, K-12, and minored in Health Education. His field experience included Highlands High School in Fort Thomas, KY, and Beechgrove Elementary in Kenton, KY. He student taught 2000-2001 at Mariemont High School, Cincinnati, and Lincoln Elementary, Dayton, OH. For varying intervals between 1994 and 2003 he was an Assistant Football Coach and the Basketball Coordinator for Deer Park High School while serving as the Emergency Certified Special Educator at Two River Middle School and Covington Public Schools, and was the Freshman Baseball Coach at Kings High School. He assisted with Physical Education/Health, Football and Baseball at Bethel Tate High School before coming to St. Gertrude in 2004. While teaching at SGS he earned a Masters in Administration Ed. from Xavier University. He enjoys teaching a variety of skill-related sports including golf, tennis, volleyball and Lacrosse. He continues to assist as a track and football coach, most currently at Madeira High School.

Mr. Eric Nienaber has been with St. Gertrude School since August, 2012.  His experience in I.T. is extensive.  He has worked at GE Aircraft Engines, various schools in Northern Kentucky and remains as a technology consultant to several clients relating to networking design and internet/web development.  Lauri, his wife, and he have four children, Jacob, Abigail, Lucas and Andrew.  As a couple, they are very active in Living Marriage as a Sacrament, and Engaged Encounter.

Ms. Shari Siebert

Ms. Shari Siebert attended grade school here (Class of 1975). Upon graduation from Ohio State University, she became a second grade teacher at St. Gertrude School. Her tenure in the second grade was 16 years until she became the Director of Religious Education in 2001. There are many events at the parish that have Ms. Siebert’s touch, including Vacation Bible School, festival, sacramental preparation, Virtus training and Child Protection workshops. She enjoys using fun activities to promote the faith to people of all ages. In 2010, Ms. Siebert became the first recipient of the Veritas Award.

Brad married his beautiful bride, Katie, on Dec. 27, 2008. They have four children and live in Madeira, OH. Brad is the Director of Youth Ministry at St. Gertrude Parish, where he focuses on forming intentional disciples within the youth of the parish and beyond. He is a chapter head for St. Paul Street Evangelization, a founding member of Encounter Cincinnati, and a workshop leader at the Proclaim Discipleship Conference (Fall 2014) for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Brad graduated from Franciscan University in 2008 (BA in English/Theology) and in 2014 (MA in Theology and Christian Ministry).
Mrs. Courtney Swillinger

Mrs. Courtney Swillinger is the Speech Langauge Pathologist for St. Gertrude School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Ball State University in Education, and taught Middle School for 3 years before deciding to continue her studies. She then received a M.A. degree in Speech Language Pathology from University of Cincinnati. Mrs. Swillinger loves the field of speech language pathology because there is such a variety in the children that she treats. She enjoys all areas of speech and language, but is specifically interested in severe articulation disorders (Childhood Apraxia of Speech), Fluency/Stuttering and Pragmatic/Social Language Disorders. Courtney has been providing speech and language services to St. Gertrude and Madeira City Schools since the fall of 2007.
Mrs. Sandy Smith

Mrs. Sandy Smith has been the Math Tutor at St. Gertrude School since 2013. Prior to coming to St. Gertrude, Mrs. Smith taught second grade at Madeira Elementary School. She graduated from Xavier University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and is certified to teach grades PreK-8. Mrs. Smith looks forward each day to working cooperatively with the teachers at St. Gertrude to reach the math needs of the students she serves by fostering a love and understanding of the mathematical concepts taught in grades K-8. Mrs. Smith enjoys spending time with her husband and their four sons and feels blessed to be involved with a variety of parish activities at St. Gertrude Church.

Mrs. Cox (Reading Resource Teacher) began her career at St. Gertrude in the fall of 1998 when she accepted a second grade teaching position after graduating Summa Cum Laude from Xavier University with a B.S. in Elementary Education in 1997. Mrs. Cox became our Reading Support Teacher in 2005. She is Orton-Gillingham trained and is dedicated to helping struggling students become successful readers. She is currently pursuing her Master's Degree in Reading at Xavier.
