Jr High Religion and Lang. Arts
Sister Veronica Marie, O.P., a member of the Congregation of Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia, teaches Religion and Language Arts in St. Gertrude’s Junior High. A graduate of Benedictine College, Sister holds a B.A. in Secondary Education and English. Having taught in Nashville, Tennessee, and Denver, Colorado, she brings a variety of experience to St. Gertrude. In teaching Religion, Sister is aware the importance of students continuing to encounter Christ, deepening their personal relationship with Him. She strives to facilitate these encounters through solid doctrinal studies, opportunities for personal prayer and adoration, reception of the Sacraments, spiritual reading, and retreat events. She works closely with the youth minister to prepare the 8th grade students to lead the school’s households, and collaborates with the music instructor to direct them in the grand tradition of the Nativity Pageant. In Language Arts, Sister brings her love of writing, grammar, diagramming, and literature to her work. Students participate in book clubs, dramas, and theatrical readings. Classic Children’s Literature is a particular area of focus. When teaching writing, research papers, persuasive essays, and literary analysis form the basis of her assignments, all the while giving the students practical tools to improve their writing. Bringing her consecration and her professional experience to the classroom, Sister Veronica Marie strives to create an environment where each student feels challenged, guided, and loved.
